I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!! You got into a fight, cursed with impressive range and imagination, and threw rocks at other kids. But that’s not why I’m proud of you, obviously. I’m proud because you’ve done all that before, but this time you added in something different.
You turned around and followed me home.
Now T, I know you aren’t ever giving me the whole story with these continual fights you are getting into. I know quite well that you go looking for a fight, and then you find one. But my darling, I am so proud because for the first time, even in the middle of your raging and cursing, you decided that you didn’t really need to fight after all.
Thank you, my darling, for letting it go.
You were screaming at the other kids and the neighbors were watching and I was trying my darndest to actually pick you up and carry you home. I told you that if you really wanted to leave, this was the way to do it, but that I wanted you to stay. That’s the honest-to-god truth, T; I really want you to stay. I am the happiest, proudest Mama in the world today because by turning around and coming home with me tonight, you told me that you kind of want to stay too.
